Villagers Are Your Engine

Every resource in Little Incrementisle flows through villager assignments. Unlike passive incrementals, unassigned villagers produce nothing. The game rewards players who treat assignment as a real-time priority, especially from island four onward.

Baseline Ratios

Early islands: sixty percent food, forty percent wood until surplus stabilizes. Mid islands: add stone specialists when building demands it. Pirate islands: reserve twenty percent for defense. Winter islands: push food to seventy percent several days before the season.

Recruitment Timing

Recruit when food surplus grows for three consecutive days, not when housing merely has space. Each villager is a recurring food cost. Over-recruiting before winter or raids is the leading cause of colony collapse.

Event Reassignment

Create a mental roster: who returns to food, who defends, who maintains wood. Practice moving villagers within ten seconds of warnings. Speed matters more than perfect ratios during crises.

Late-Game Staffing

Deep archipelago islands need flexible generalists. Avoid locking villagers into specialty tasks that cannot be interrupted. Harbor pushes may require temporary full wood shifts.

Frequently Asked Questions

What happens when villagers die?
You lose labor capacity and may fail island objectives if population drops too low.
Is there a maximum villager count?
Housing sets the cap. Upgrade housing to recruit more.
Can villagers multitask?
Each villager has one assignment at a time. Reassign manually.
How do I see consumption?
Check the resource bar tooltips and villager panel summaries.
Should I idle with fewer villagers?
Smaller fed colonies beat large starving ones.
