How to beat pirate raids in Little Incrementisle: defense assignments, building priorities, raid timers, and resource protection strategies.

Understanding Pirate Raids
Pirate raids are combat events that attack your colony and steal resources if defenses are weak. They appear on pirate-heavy islands and occasionally on standard islands as random events. Raids demand immediate villager reassignment — gathering must pause while fighters defend.
Unlike winter, which can be predicted and stockpiled against, raids punish slow reactions. You need a plan before the horn sounds.
Defense Roster Basics
Keep two to four villagers unassigned from gathering on islands flagged as pirate waters. Assign them to defense structures or combat roles as soon as raids begin. If you lack dedicated fighters, pull from wood gathering first — wood recovers faster than food during crises.
Defensive buildings should be constructed before the first raid timer on pirate islands. Waiting until a warning appears often means the building queue cannot finish in time.
During a Raid
When the raid warning triggers, pause recruitment and nonessential construction. Move all available villagers to defense or emergency food gathering if raids coincide with consumption spikes. Protect food storage above all other resources — losing wood hurts, losing food kills colonies.
After the raid ends, wait one full production cycle before returning villagers to harbor construction. Rebuild stockpiles first so a chained event does not end the run.
- Pre-assign defenders on pirate islands.
- Build walls or defense posts early.
- Pause recruitment during raids.
- Protect food storage first.
- Rebuild before resuming sail prep.
Talent Support
Disaster and defense-oriented prestige talents reduce raid frequency or resource loss. Invest these before entering back-to-back pirate islands. Production talents alone cannot outpace stolen goods during heavy raid schedules.
Island Selection
If raids repeatedly end your runs, avoid pirate modifier islands until your talent tree includes defense upgrades. Alternate with cost-reduction or food-bonus islands to rebuild momentum. Beating pirates is as much about routing as combat micro.
